is a powerful force that exercises eminent domain over 75% of the earth, and we as humans, whose bodies are 65% water, are mere subjects to its varying moods, whims and seductions. On sunny days we cavort on its shores and at night we surrender to the gentle rocking of its moon-sung tides.
Because of our total dependence on the sea, we must accept and reckon with its restless spirit and tempestuous nature, knowing that at any moment those docile waves can transform into a blackened abyss. An abyss accompanied by fierce clouds and wailing laments, thus becoming a metaphor for the characters that live in the author's stories.
Just as in real life, where we sometimes stumble and lose our way, the darkened clouds and storm-tossed waves occasionally blind the characters, but they will always be able to discern a distant glimmer of light, and know that it is the sun rising to calm the agitated sea. |
